St. John Paul II: “Open your heart to Christ”

MESSAGE OF POPE JOHN PAUL II FOR THE XXVII WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS.

Dear boys and girls, adolescents and young people.

Open your hearts to Christ, go out to meet him, quench your thirst at his fountains.

He offers you a water that quenches your thirst for truth, joy, happiness and love; a water that quenches your thirst for infinity and eternity, for the water he gives you becomes in you “a spring welling up to eternal life” (Jn 4:14).

Listen to Christ: he opens your hearts to hope. Follow Christ: He is the “light of the world” and “whoever follows him does not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Jn 8:12).

Discover the beauty of the Christian vocation and confirm your baptismal commitments; renew your resolution to walk in “newness of life” (Rom 6:4), remaining united to Christ as branches to the vine (cf. Jn 15), so as to bear much fruit. Make yourselves personally sensitive to the needs of the Church, docile to the promptings of divine grace, generous and eager to respond to the Lord’s call, who invites you to follow him more closely in a life of total consecration to the love of God and the service of your neighbor.
